Asbestos certification and licensing implementation
The provincial government has amended the Workers Compensation Act to establish requirements that asbestos abatement contractors must be licensed to operate in British Columbia, and that workers who perform this work must complete mandatory safety training and obtain certificates.

Memorial to honour those affected by asbestos exposure
The Asbestos Memorial in Vancouver was officially opened on September 22, 2022. The art piece was created and installed to eternalize those who have died and who are continually affected by asbestos exposure in the province.

New team members, new courses!
As we continue to grow and add more team members, we are welcoming the opportunity to take part in new and beneficial training certifications. Two of our team members are participating in the HMBI (Hazardous Materials Building Inspector) certification this Spring. This course is a newly-developed program designed by a team of very qualified safety professionals via Antiquity Environmental Ltd.

New standards introduced under Workers Compensation Act
The B.C Government is introducing new regulations to help keep workers safe from the dangers of asbestos. New standards introduced under the Workers Compensation Act will require contractors who work in asbestos abatement to be licensed and complete mandatory safety training and certification. These changes will give those working with asbestos the tools and knowledge to do so safely without putting their health at risk.​

According to the International Labour Organization (ILO), an estimated 160 million people suffer from work-related diseases, with some two million dying annually as a result. About eight per cent of these occupational disease deaths can be directly attributed to respiratory complications, namely chronic obstructive pulmonary disorders (COPD), asbestos-related diseases (ARDs), pneumoconiosis, and silicosis. What exactly is silicosis, though, and what should design/construction professionals know to help reduce its impact on those in the industry?
